Pests of hens
Martens, like weasels, are most commonly associated with damage to hens, as they can wipe out an entire coop in one night. They do not hunt hens for food. However, other predators also threaten hens. Find out more about them.

How scent fences work
So what are scent fences? They are concentrates with a natural or synthetic scent that mimics the scents of the natural enemies of the selected pests. The scent of the repellents actually tells the pests in question that their predators are present and in danger. This simply deters the animals. For more details on how scent fences work, our advice will explain.

What a scent fence consists of
As we have already mentioned, the basic element of any scent fence, not only for martens, is the concentrate. This cannot be done without a suitable carrier. In our e-shop you will find 4 types of carriers for the scent fence. Primarily we recommend one of our patented biodegradable carriers, namely the BIO10-PO carrier in regular shape or the BIO10-S carrier in irregular shape. However, you will also find a wood fibre or PU foam carrier for moles in our offer.
Before buying an odour spray for martens, read our article on the required amount of concentrate. When calculating, remember that the anti-mosquito product must be renewed regularly. You can conveniently calculate the correct amount in our handy calculator.
You should definitely not miss an adapter in your scent fence kit, which will prolong the effect of the scent fence. In some cases, you will also find wooden stakes useful for better positioning of the scent fence. You can find the above-mentioned equipment and other related products, such as disposable protective suits, in the scent fence accessories section.
Odour fences against martens
As you already know, scent fences are used to protect chicken coops, as car scarecrows and also to protect roofs from the intrusion of martens. As with other animals, we offer scent fences for martens in the form of a stand-alone marten concentrate or in combination with a scent fence carrier.

Installation and application of a scent fence
The installation of a scent fence concentrate depends primarily on the problem you are solving. If you are solving how to deal with a marten in the attic or how to repel a marten from the vicinity of a chicken coop, place scent fences in the marten's travel route. In short, in places where the marten passes through and where it may encounter the repellent. For occupied buildings, we recommend placing the scent fence in unoccupied areas, away from windows and doors, otherwise the smell may bother you.
In the case of car protection against martens, the carrier with the concentrate is placed under the car, for example, in a bowl. However, always only outside, not in the garage. Never put the concentrate directly into the car engine. The smell of the marten spray would then make life unpleasant not only for the martens, but also for you.
The application of the scent fence itself is very simple. Inject the anti-mosquito concentrate into the carrier of your choice in 3 places and you are done. For more information on how to use the scent fence, download our methodology.
Use and maintenance of a scent fence
After installation, the scent fence should be checked periodically, especially the condition of the chemical repellent for martens, i.e. the amount of concentrate. How often to renew the scent fence? In the case of martens and hens, we recommend renewing the anti-mosquito product every 14 days until the martens are away from the hen house.
If you are not only worried about martens, but also other pests, we have good news for you. In our offer you can also find scent fences against other animals, as well as to solve other problems.
Odour and electric fences against martens
If you want to increase your protection from martens, add an electric marten fence to your scented marten repellent. You can just stretch the electric fence on the roof, around the chicken coop, or in the case of cars, just put an electric pad under the car. A weak current runs through the wire of the fence, which will not harm the animals. It will only alert them slightly to the presence of a foreign object that they cannot get past. So if you want to increase the effectiveness of scented fences even more, then don't hesitate to add an electric marten scarer to them as well. You really don't have to worry about your property afterwards.
In our e-shop you can choose from two sets of electric scent fences. We have:
- a set of scent and electric fence with mains power supply against martens
- a set of scent fence and electric car mat
